{Blog Tour} Gambit by C.L. Denault: Review

Title: Gambit
Author: C.L. Denault
Publication Date: March 31, 2015 by REUTS Publications, LLC
In Earth’s battle-ridden future, humans have evolved. Those with extraordinary skills rise to power and fame. Those without live in poverty.

Sixteen-year-old Willow Kent believed she was normal. But when a genetically-advanced military officer shows up in her village and questions her identity, long-buried secrets begin to emerge. With remarkable skills and a shocking genetic code the Core and its enemies will do anything to obtain, Willow suddenly finds the freedom she craves slipping through her fingers. Greed, corruption, and genetic tampering threaten every aspect of her existence as she’s thrust, unwilling, into the sophisticated culture of the elite Core city. To ensure peace,

she must leave the past behind, marry a man she’s never met, and submit to the authority of a relentless officer with a hidden agenda of his own.

Her life has become a dangerous game. How much will she sacrifice in order to win?

My Thoughts

Gambit was a great read. The flow of the story went well. I’ll give this book a 5 stars if it weren’t for the characters.

Willow Kent lives contently with her Family who runs a tavern. Until a Core officer came to their village and changed her life. The Core officer, Reece found out that Willow is a prodigy and she’s the long lost daughter of the Roanoke’s, they are one of the biggest companies in the Core. Reece took Willow to the Core, he also took away Willow’s freedom and her loved-ones.

Willow and Reece had a hard time at first, they always fight. They’re like hot and cold. Willow is a stubborn brat, she doesn’t listen to anyone. While Reece, as a Core officer wants everything to go on his way. This two, annoys me. The worse is yet to come. When they arrived to the Core, Reece and Willow got closer and they developed a romantic relationship. Their relationship really drove me off the walls. Gah /frustrates much/

Well, those two are the only ones I hated. Hahaha. I’m looking forward for the next book. I want to see more of Thess, Aspen, Tem and Joshua.

About the Author

C.L. Denault is a speculative fiction writer who loves dreaming up tales of adventure and intrigue. A former systems analyst, she gave up her nerdy code-writing skills to care for her family (including a son with special needs), and currently lives among the vast stretches of cornfields in Illinois.

Writing stories and posting on The INFJ Café are her biggest passions, along with drinking coffee and watching sci-fi. When she’s not hanging out with her husband and kids, she can usually be found at a library or tucked away in the shadowy corner of a hip coffeehouse. She’s also been glimpsed sneaking into her garage, late at night, to work on her time machine.
Her debut novel, Gambit, is the first in a Young Adult dystopian series.

  1. Hi! Randomly going through your blog I found this review and I have to say that I feel some interest towards it! Gonna add it to my tbr list! Ah, I feel your pain about characters being annoying and then "falling in love", I can't with that either, but oh well, it happens. Anyway, your blog is so pretty and your reviews are so nice, keep up the good work! /following ♥

P.S: Thanks for passing around my blog and following!
